It’s the story of Simon of Cyrene coming into Jerusalem that day with his two young sons. It tells the story from Simon’s perspective, helping us to picture what might have been going through his mind that day, what he may have experienced.
Simon’s story reminds me that sometimes we may not know how we may end up being a part of God’s story in this world, but we all end up with a role to play. Sometimes it’s not easy, and sometimes we don’t like it. We don’t know how we might be stopped in our journey, torn away from our daily tasks to participate in something bigger. We don’t know when our eyes may be opened to something new. Questions may bombard us. Doubts settle in. Confusion clouds our mind. But then we encounter Jesus. We see love, grace, and mercy with a newly opened heart. We watch and see the Lamb. We see the story unfolding. And we realize that we’re a part of that story.
