Written for late elementary age children, this book is full of joy and hope. It follows the life of Gracelyn, a young girl with a limiting disability, who lives on a ranch with her parents and brother. Her spirit is kind and wholesome, as she embraces her life and shares it with all the animals that live on and around the ranch. Her brother also has a good soul, as he looks out for his younger sister, participating with her in life on the ranch.  Gracelyn, as the reader will come to see, has a very special relationship with all the animals that flock to the ranch, wild and tame. When she has to go to the hospital for an operation on her twelfth birthday, the animals are the ones that come up with an amazing surprise for her. (But I won’t give away that surprise for the reader!) The book ends on a note of hope as Gracelyn comes home to the ranch and gifts the animals with a song: “Amazing Grace, how sweet the song, That saved a child like me. I once was lost, but not for long, Was bound but now I’m free….You all have shown love to me. Your trust will be my cure. Grace will my salvation be, As long as I endure.”

Any reader, but especially the young, will enjoy this simple but charming book about giving and sharing and grace.
