Today I vote for the poor. I vote for the prisoners. I vote for those who have been treated unfairly. I vote for kindness. I vote for justice. I vote for goodness. I vote for those who don’t have a voice. I vote for peace. I vote for the good of the earth. I vote for neighbors. I vote for foreigners. I vote for equality.
Today I will keep in mind my connection to every other person on this earth, and my connection to the earth itself. We are all children of God together. We are all a part of God’s creation. I will not let my vote become selfish or only about me. I will not vote for greed. I will not vote for exclusion. I will not let my vote endorse the demeaning of any person or any group of persons. I will vote for what brings us together, not what tears us apart. I will vote not just for the good of America, but for the good of all.
I will remember that no candidate is perfect. But I am not looking for perfection. I am looking for someone who is more likely to listen and learn, a leader who is humble and pulls us together and not apart. This election will not be the end of advocating for peace and the good of all. It will only be the beginning.
I will rest in the fact that all belongs to God. God has entrusted us with much. I will not take that responsibility lightly. But I will trust that God is working. God is working to bring about God’s peaceable kingdom throughout the earth. Will I join God in that work, doing my part?
