This fast-paced book is a powerful allegory of the good news of Jesus. It is the story of God, set in a fantasy world of treeish beings, ravens turning into doves, blood worms, and labyrinths. It is a story of relationship between Love, Nali (the river of Love) and Ilan (the tree of Love). And it is a story of Love inviting us to join this relationship.
The story helped me to reflect on the complicated labyrinths we build around our lives. We develop systems, religions, and practices in order to keep us safe. Our fears keep us striving to work hard building walls. And we tuck ourselves deep inside these walls because we are afraid of Love’s demands. We become prisoners of our elaborate labyrinths, instead of risking letting Love set us free. We’re afraid of Love, instead of trusting Love. But, when we finally see what Love is willing to do for us, our fears disappear. We become free to live and free to love without our protective walls. We can lay down our lives and freely give life, because we have trusted Love and received Love’s life ourselves.
I would encourage all who are seeking God to read this book, and be open to its explanation of freedom. “The way of freedom is often painful, but it is also filled with great joy.” May you know that joy. May you know Love. And may you realize there is no end.
