Out Of The Shadows, Book One of The Velieri Uprising, by Tessa Van Wade

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book took me on a fast-paced action-filled journey into an alternative world of a super-human race trying to make sense of life in this world. It follows the transformation of Willow, an ordinary teacher, into Remy, the One who is chosen for a special purpose. The book is a quick read that keeps the reader flipping quickly from one page to the next, and yet at times a character’s thoughts or words slow you down and draw you into reflection on the deeper meaning hidden behind the plot. What is the Prophecy? Who is the Chosen One? Are we missing The Truth?

I was especially drawn into the main character’s identity crisis. Who is she? Can she let go of her old self and find her true self? Can she let go of her fears, ridding herself of the many voices trying to influence her, and find her own thoughts? Can she figure out what’s real and what’s not? Sometimes what you’ve been told is exposed for the lie that it is. And the work of figuring that out is extremely difficult. But this shadow work is what leads to transformation.

If you like a book full of action and adventure and hidden meanings, you will like Out Of The Shadows. And at the end of the book, you’ll be left wanting more. I can’t wait for Book Two!
