The season of autumn
The season of death
A holy process
A sacred moment of stepping outdoors
A new cleanliness in the air
As all around is dying
As all around is letting go
As all around is finding the divine freedom of release
Just a part of the cycle of life
Just a part of the pattern of existence
But maybe not just
For fear wraps itself around the haunts
For scariness invades the enchantment
For mystery pervades it all
Slogging through the murky mud
Wading through the limitless leaves
Trudging through the grueling giref
The going through the darkness
The going toward the greater reality
The going closer to Life
To find what
To find light
To find actuality
Look up
Look up for the beauty
Look up for the color
Search for the gift
Search for the splendor
Search for the windfall of delight*
The season of falling forever into the deathless depths of God**

*the term “windfall of delight” comes from St. John of the Cross
