Bits of Being

thoughts on life, faith, family….and, yes, just learning to "be"

A Blessing For The Later Years

= 851

As time moves on and you feel a failing within your very bones,

May your falling be upward and not downward.

As the years tick by and the path seems very steep ahead,

May you march onward and not backward.

As energy wanes and obstacles mount,

May you not avoid the way ahead but confidently put one foot in front of the other.

As life slows down and purpose seems elusive,

May who you are become more important than what you do.

As your inner memory flickers and falters,

May you have patience to listen to the voice within.

As you mourn the much you have lost,

May you celebrate the more you have gained.

As you feel the heaviness of your outer humanity,

May you feel the lightness of the fountains of living water flowing within you,

A current of water carrying you and creating rainbows.

As the smallness of yourself is emptied out,

May you be filled with the greatness of God;

A greatness that soaks into your very soul until it is a part of you.

May you let yourself desire deeply:

desire your true self,

desire God,

desire all that is good and true and beautiful.

And may you remember all who are following in your steps,

inspired by you,

motivated by you,

thankful for your example of a life lived with grace.
